Mullaglass Primary School, Newry, County Down

Mid-Ulster Schools Football October Festival 2019

30th Oct 2019

Mullaglass PS entered into the new season with some new faces after losing 4 P7 players in June. Mullaglass have been working hard in training and focusing on passing, moving and keeping the ball. The first game saw Mullaglass entertain Bleary Primary School. Mullaglass started the brighter and created numerous chances through the creative flair of captain Jayden Dodds. Bleary did have their attacks but came up against a strong backline of Ally McCann, Bobby McConnell and Matthew McAlister. Mullaglass did eventually take the lead when a great pass by the impressive Adam Liggett found Alex Berry who unleashed a long distance effort into the roof of the net. Mullaglass held firm to win the first game 1-0.

A brief rest saw Mullaglass play Richmount next. A change of formation allowed Caie Warnock to start up top. Caie almost put Mullaglass into the lead with some good footwork but was unable to keep his shot on target. Mullaglass were denied again after a mazy run by Dodds, beating 4 players, but his effort was somehow blocked on the line by a Richmount defender. Mullaglass piled on the pressure and took the lead through Dodds after great work from McAlister on the left hand side. Mullaglass doubled their lead through Alex Berry who was on hand to tap in from close range after some excellent play by Liggett. Richmount pressed to get back in the game and were denied by a great save by Evan Fulton. Full-time 2-0.

Mullaglass played their 3rd game against St. Anthonys. Mullaglass took the lead in the opening minute after some great play and finish by Adam Liggett. However, St. Anthonys grew more into the game and soon equalized. The game was end to end and Mullaglass almost regained the lead through Dodds. However, it was St. Anthonys who scored the winner to take the three points. 1-2

Mullaglass saw themselves qualify to the next stage of the competition and came up against a strong Hardy side who had finished top of their group in the ‘big’ schools section. Mullaglass had to do a lot of defending and Hardy found it hard to break through McAlister, McCann and Fulton. However, their pressure did eventually lead to the only goal of the game and saw Hardy progress to the final. 0-1

Great performances from all the boys. The football on show was excellent. With two P5s, four P6s and just two P7’s playing, the future is certainly bright for Mullaglass. All points are calculated towards the end of the season.
