P4/5 ~ Weekly News (13.1.23)

13th Jan 2023

Our return to school after Christmas has been great! The children have all settled very well into term 2 and have been very busy completing lots of activities for display as our class was looking a little bare after the decorations came down.

For literacy we have been completing comprehension activities learning about the New Year, writing a recount of our Christmas break, writing a prediction for our new class novel ‘Space Band’ by Tom Fletcher as well as developing our spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.

During numeracy we looked at thermometers to read different temperatures including temperatures below freezing which helped us to progress to learning about negative numbers. We also recapped our skills of subtraction with exchange across the zero as well as working in small groups to measure items around the classroom in meters.

We have started a Reading Eggs challenge to encourage children to access the Reading Eggs app which the school has purchased. The app focuses on developing reading, spelling and comprehension skills. Please encourage children at home to spend some time on Reading Eggs throughout each week.
